Dr Shayama Chona, the only school educator who has been awarded the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan, by the President of India is the driving force behind the school. Dr. Shayama Chona was the Principal of Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram, New Delhi. Her efforts to break the barriers of schools to include the poor and the handicapped are unprecedented. She has also launched major initiatives to strengthen teaching of Science, Computers and Information Technology in schools. She serves as a member on 97 advisory boards and committees and is Trustee of the Nehru BalSamiti and Special Olympics, Patron of ‘Concerned Action now’, Vice Chairman of the society for Human Development, besides being on the managing committee of 46 schools and other educational institutions. Dr. Chona has given concrete shape and direction to her transcendent principles, by setting up three schools for mentally challenged; ‘Tamana Special School’, ‘NaiDisha’, and the ‘School of Hope’. As their founder, she has been working for the upliftment of the handicapped children since 1984, and celebrates humanity with the dictum, “Numberless are the world’s wonders, but none more wonderful than man.” She is proud recipient of 54 awards, the most prestigious being the Padma Bhushan in 2008. For over four decades, Dr. Chona has served the society at large, with distinction and timeless dedication. Her mission to educate and empower both the well-t-do and the needy, the abled along with the disabled, and the ‘have’ with the ‘have-nots’, has never known any boundaries, and has led to the full realization of the human potential.

With such drastic changes in Indian society over the past few decades, our children are under much pressure. Joint family systems are breaking down, there is increased competitiveness in schools, immense technological advances, greater peer and parental pressures resulting in an environment laden with stress and strain for the children. As such, the Royal Global School recognises that school counselling is the need of the hour and is an essential part of the smooth functioning of modern school systems.
Loya Agarwala is an experienced counsellor working specifically in the arena of adolescent counselling for the last twelve years. Born, brought-up and educated in the UK, her fresh perspective and modern approach to counselling has helped bridge the gap between numerous parents and adolescents. An alumnus of Brunel University of West London, she graduated with honours before completing her Masters in Psychology and Post-graduate Diploma in Counselling from the Indian Institute of Counselling, New Delhi.
Her first book entitled ‘A School Counsellor’s Diary’ based on 34 real counselling cases was published by national publishers Westland Ltd in 2013.Students like to confide in someone who is a good listener, has an empathic heart, a strong sense of judgement and maintains confidentiality. Loya's friendly and professional approach to counselling encourages students to come forward and freely share their problems. Whilst some students are referred by teachers, she endeavours to empower them all to cope with their emotional distress and daily struggles in their adolescent development. Often, in more serious cases, she may call parents to school or will work closely with the Principal and teachers to help overcome the problem. The counsellor maintains records of student’s problems, follows up the progress of counselled students and offers recommendations and referrals to teachers and parents on how to solve issues.She is available for individual counselling (by appointment) for students of Grades 7 – 12 on Mondays at RGS.
